Giving Securities

This brochure explains the tax advantage of giving appreciated securities. Practical step-by-step instructions for making gifts of stock are included, along with the form for using the Foundation gift "pass through" service. Every year the Foundation processes hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stock gifts for church members across the state. This service is provided at cost (generally about $10). The Foundation provides a gift receipt letter to the donor. A check for the net proceeds and a complete accounting of the transaction are sent to the church or agency designated by the donor.

Remember Your Church

This simple suggestion can make a huge difference in the long-term life of your congregation. Many folks have simply not thought about this type of gift to the church. An estate gift can be a meaningful culmination of a lifetime of devoted Christian discipleship and an inspiration to family and friends.

The Charitable Gift Annuity

The Foundation administers a Charitable Gift Annuity program serving the members of the United Methodist Church statewide. With a CGA a donor may claim a current income tax deduction and receive fixed regular payments for life. At the end of the annuity, the remainder value of the gift annuity benefits the church or ministry designated by the donor.

Donor Advised Funds

Individuals can create endowments or funds for designated purposes directly at the Foundation. In general, such funds provide on-going annual financial support to a local church, a particular ministry or a type of ministry. One special type of designated fund is called a Donor Advised Fund. The DAF allows an individual donor (or donor family) to remain actively involved in the annual charitable distribution decision.
